Introduction
Portloko Health Awareness Network (PHAN) is a Charity Organisation
that was set up to help children and young people of particularly
families of the less fortunate. PHAN's idea is designed to deliver
information across the society on health awareness and that without
taking certain precautions in life; our lives will be at risks.
Objectives and Aims 1. Preservation and protection of good health among children and young people in the Greater London area (the beneficiaries) by the provision of advance and guidance on the benefits of good nutrition and eating habits, the risks associated with drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases and on the positive effects of sports and other physical activities in maintaining good health. 2. The provision, in the interests of social welfare, of facilities in the Greater London area for recreation or other leisure time occupation for those in need of such facilities by reason of their youth, economic or social circumstance, with the object of improving their conditions of life. Background of the Organisation The general idea of Portloko Health Awareness Network (PHAN) is motivated in increasing health awareness to Children, Young People and Adults in our community in Greater London area - New Ham Borough - Canning Town. The main target groups will be different ethnic minority groups in the Borough in the society as whole. Thus, we believe most of them have very little or no access to information regarding health matters which leads to obesity and other diseases such as HIV/AIDS. The difficulties may be caused on long working hours, work pressure, social and family problems. We believe this will be minimised by reaching them through providing local source of information centre managing by a local organisation like PORTLOKO HEALTH AWARENESS NETWORK. PHAN will disseminate it's message across through holding seminars, workshops, and word of moth or conferences where parents and their children and young people will be the participants. We will also make sure that most of our schedules are compatible with parents working timetable. This way of disseminating information will enable Children and Young People and Parents alike to control their eating habits and take proactive role in physical activities and other matters that preventing other diseases such as sexual ones. The organisation will address matters mentioned above by given information or counselling on how our target groups will take certain precautions in protecting themselves from diseases that will have serious implications on NHS. Framework The organisation framework will be co-ordinated through education, training programmes, holding seminars, conferences and workshops, conducting surveys and publishing a quarterly newsletter in a form of hard print and electronics in order to reach a wider audience. In the education and training programmes, we will conduct educational and training and training programmes that pertinent or compatible to health awareness. Hence educating children, young people and adults on the risks which endangering their health through eating unhealthy foodstuffs that could cause obesity, diabetes and other diseases such as HIV/AIDS and other sexual diseases that could have serious implication in their lives and the wider community/society. In each workshop held we would invite quest speakers from different health institutions to speak on health issues pertinent to health awareness. There will be opportunity for our target groups especially young people to write articles on health issues, which will further enhance their creativity in their school work. Research activities will be through conducting surveys; we will set up questionnaires, conduct interview relating to health issues. This we believe will enable us to have a broader knowledge and monitor the target groups' attitude towards health awareness. There will be volunteers to assist in administrative work, in organising the workshops, conferences, holding seminars, in typing, editing and distributing/and delivering the message of the organisation. This we hope will help our target groups to change their habits and behaviours regarding health issues. |
